VISIT OF SIR KEITH PARK
Air Chief Marshal Sir Keith Park and Lady Park arrived in Christchurch from Oamaru yesterday on a three-day visit. Coming by air from Oamaru, the party was met at Wigram by the Minister of Industries and Commerce (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan), Air Commodore Sir Robert Clark-Hall and Lady Clark-Hall, and the commanding officer (Wing Commander F. R. Dix). Sir Keith Park, who went for a drive round the city with Mr Sullivan, had no public engagements yesterday. In th£ evening he was the guest of the officers’ mess at Wigram. To-day he will meet the executive of the Returned Services’ Association, and will be the guest of the Christchurch Officers’ Club in the afternoon. In the evening he will be given a civic reception. The party, which includes Flight Lieutenant R. W. Lewis and Flight Lieutenant I. Bracken, will leave for Auckland by air on Wednesday morning. The* itinerary in New Zealand has been extended an additional two days because of his engagements in Auckland. He will fly from Auckland to Singapore to resume his position of Air Commander-in-Chief. South-east Asia.
Sir Keith Park, who yesterday was wearing battledress, has three and a half rows of decoration ribbons. His awards include two received just recently, the G.C.B. awarded last May for his services in the South-east Asia Command, and the American Legion of Merit, of which he received advice recently.
