NYALLO SCOTT AND BOBBY BURNS

TROTTING -

i CONSISTENT FORM AT NELSON Nyallo Scott and Bobby Burns, which race in the interests of Mr J. R. McKenzie, won four of the 10 events decided at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. Nyallo Scott, which is trained by L. F. Berkett, won the first division of the Wakefield Handicap by a length and a half from Travis Boy, and in the second j division Bobby Burns won by two lengths from Razzle. This form worked out perfectly when these horses met again later in the afternoon in the Murchison Handicap, where Bobby Burns beat Razzle by half a length in the first division, and in the second division Nyallo Scott beat Travis Boy by a similar margin. Nyallo Scott, which had previously started in four races this season for three third is by U. Scott from the Great Audubon mare, Nyallo, the dam of a family of winners which includes classic winners in Taxpayer and Refund. Bobby Burns is trained for Mr McKenzie at Roydon Lodge by G. B. Noble, and he had shown some promise to/record two third placings in his first four starts. A five-year-old gelding, he is by U. Scott from Grattan Lass, the dam of a fast mare in Nola Scott, which would have taken a much tighter mark but for han-, dicapping herself by losing ground at the start of her faces. Grattan Lass was also bred by Mr McKenzie, and is by Great Bingen from Grattan Queen, an imported Grattan Loyal mare.

Jottings Billy McElwyn was beaten by only half a head by Loyal Flier in the Foxhill Handicap. at Nelson, and he may prove the hardest for Monitress to beat in the maiden trots to-day. Black Chips, which was recently registered by Mr J. Taylor, Otokia, is a three-year-old colt by Sandydale from a Man o’ War mare. Razzle, which gained two second placings at Nelson on Saturday, is a three-year-old gelding by Great Bingen from Hazel Parrish. Trained by T. Gardyne for Messrs J. Eadie and J. Kennedy, he has been placed in four of his last five races, and he should again race well today. Driven by E. Kennerley, Sandstone showed his best form for some time when he finished a head behind Jackalette in the Cambridge Victory Handicap. Laurene Grattan has recorded seven placings in her last eight starts, and that form entitles her to consideration at Nelson to-day. Native Scott looked well when working at Addington on Saturday, and he should be prominent in the All Aged Stakes at Ashburton this week. I Slow Time

Although the Nelson Trotting Club Handicap resulted in a close finish between Huntingdon Lass, Real Nugget, and Worthy Prince, the race was run at a slow pace, and the winner, which was assessed on 4rmn 44sec for the two miles, was required to do only 4mln 50sec to win. Huntingdon Lass and Worthy Prince met again in the Riwaka Handicap, and on this occasion Worthy Prince won by half a head from Huntingdon Lass, with Golden Glow another half a length away. Worthy Prince, which started from a 2mm 52sec mark for the mile and a quarter, won in 2min 54sec. It is interesting to note that in the other eight heats, which were for maiden trotters, maiden and improving pacers, all the winners recorded faster than their assessed time to win. Should Win Races

H. Robinson, now at Upper Riccarton, was present at Addington on Saturday afternoon with Mountain Hall, which worked in company with Gold Winner. Mountain Hall is a five-year-old gelding byw Dillon Hall from Mountain Jewel, a Blue Mountain King mare, and as he has been placed in three of his five races this season, he should not remain long in the maiden classes.

Surprised Silver Plane surprised at the Cambridge Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, where she gave away starts of up to 132 yards, and after a struggle with Swordsman's Triumph won by half a length in 4min 40 3-ssec. She is an aged mare by Peter Bingen from Hal Lady. Her last success was in the Parawai Handicap at the South Auckland Trotting Club’s meeting on May 6. 1944, and since then she has helped to pay expenses with three third placings and three fourth placings in 36 starts.

>May Improve Backed down toy 3-3 in the betting on the Motueka Handicap at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting, Lottie Jinks gave an encouraging performance to finish half a length behind Donald Dinnie. Lottie Jinks will have an advantage m the handicaps in the Appleby and Moutere Handicaps to-day, and this should enable her to reverse placings with Donald Dinnie. A five-year-old mare by Sandydale from Lady Cello, Lottie Jinks is trained by her owner, F. P. Brosnan, Kerrytown. and on the form she showed to win at the Amberley Racing Club’s meeting on May 11. she looks a bright prospect in her present class.

Holding Track The frost on Saturday morning prevented fast work on the main track at Addington until after 11 o clock ana some trainers also took the opportunity to work on it in the afternoon. Golden Amazon, which is trained by F. Wilson, Murchison, did not return home alter the first day of the Ashburton meeting, and he was driven by F. G. Holmes in & workout with Echoist and Nationalist on Saturday afternoon. A gelding by Quite Sure, from Great Amazon, Golden Amazon lias a touch of quality about him, and he should eventually reach good company.

Deserves a Win / Travis Boy added two more second placings to his list of minor placings when he gave his usual honest performance to finish second to Nyallo Scott in his division of the Wakefield and Murchison Handicaps at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday. He is a five-year-old gelding by Gaillard from a Travis Axworthy mare. He has started in 20 races this season, and as he has recorded four second placings in his last four starts he should go close to winning a race at Nelson to-day. Evidently Improved Diamond Jim did not have much success when racing in New Zealand, but he has evidently improved since going to Sydney. Driven by his owner, J. D. Watts, he started at the Harold Park meeting on May 11, and was not troubled to win the Improvers’ Handicap by a length from Robert Wyn in 3mfn 26sec. Bred by Mr G. Lancaster, Wellington, Diamond Jim is by Jewel Pointer (a son of Logan Pointer) from Mountain Dell, a fast pacer which took a record of 4min 19 3-ssec. Mountain Dell was. bred by Mr A O. Hill, Auckland, and is by Blue Mountain King, an Australian-bred pacer, from Whispering Dell, by Brown Pearl from a Prinz mare. Sturdily Built

W L. Pattison is educating a three- § ear-old gelding by Lusty from racken, at Addington, and on the few occasions that he has been hoppled up the youngster has paced nicely. Although he is not big, this gelding is sturdily built, and possesses powerful quarters. His dam, Bracken, was bred by Mr H. F. Nicoll, Ashburton, and is by Wrack from Maori Belle, which was bred at Rakaia by Mr I. Thompson and is by Brent Locanda from Lena Belle. .

Trained at Reefton • Driven by her owner-trainer, S. C. Griggs, Loyal Flier had a popular win at the Nelson Trotting Club’s meeting on Saturday, when she hung on to win the Foxhill Handicap by half a head from Billy McElwyn. Loyal Flier is trained at Reef ton, and has done most of her racing on. the West Coast; but her owner is prepared to travel long distances and Loyal Flier was a starter at the Oamaru Trotting Club’s winter meeting on May 11. She is a five-year-old mare by Grattan Loyal from Flying Kate. She has . started in 12 races this season, and on j her latest displays she should her i way in coming events. Her dam Flying Kate, which was bred by Mrs H. Neal, Hukarere, is by Great Audubon fom a hack mare, and to Great Bingen she left other winners in Kate Bingen, Little Audrey, and Rival Chief; while to Grattan Loyal she left the double-gaited Rivette.

Being Educated « F. Nelson has spent some time breaking in a five-year-old mare by Gaillard from Deceitful. Like her dam, this mare favours the trotting gait, and when seen out at Addington on Saturday afternoon she showed a lot of promise in her work Nelson is also handling a four-year-old pacer by Gaillard from Sadie Axworthy and this gelding looks a likely type. Sadie Axworthy was bred by Mr P Watson, Halswell. and is by Travis Axworthy from Sadie Dillon, by Harold Dillon from Miss Youngley. an imported mare. Rehandicapfe The following rehandicaps have been declared for the Ashburton Trotting Club’s meeting:—Acton Handicap, Worthy Prince 36; Tinwald Handicap.
