HEAVY CONSTRUCTION MACHINERY

ARRIVAL OF AMERICAN WAR MATERIAL The first consignment of heavy construction machinery obtained by the Public Works Department from the United States armed forces in the Pacific arrived in Christchurch on Saturday. Transhipped from the North Island, it was brought from Lyttelton to Christchurch by road. The machinery includes graders and cranes used in aerodrome construction in the Pacific. Later shipments will include bulldozers and excavators. The machinery will be serviced by the department before being allocated to various jobs, some of which will probably be among the recently-announced regional development schemes. Ten ship-loads of this machinery will arrive in New Zealand in the next few weeks.
