BRITAIN’S WAR CASUALTIES
FIGURES GIVEN IN WHITE PAPER
(Rec. 7.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 6. The war cost Britain 357,116 Jives, about a third of the previous war’s total, according to a White Paper, which gives the following sectional totals:—Navy 50.758; Army 144,079; Air Force 69.606: Merchant Navy and fishing fleet 30,248: Home Guard 1206. Women’s Auxiliary Service 624; civilians 60,595 There were also 537 unidentified bodies. At one time there were 46,079 persons posted as missing, but this figure is still being reduced, and now stands at 6244. , , . The figures for the wounded are as follow:—Armv 239,575: Navy 14,663: Air Force 22.839: Merchant Navy and fishing fleet 4707: Women’s Auxiliary Services 744; Home Guard 557; civilians 40.738
