PUBLIC BUILDING IN CITY

TWO NEW SCHOOLS AMONG PROJECTS The Government Architect (Mr R. A. Patterson) told the regional planning conference yesterday that buildings on the 10-year plan were only the major projects. There were innumerable other works and full consideration was being given to these in deciding on priorities.

He expected that work on the new St. Helens Home, for which a tender had been let, would begin shortly. It would probably be the finest hospital in New Zealand and perhaps better than any similar hospital in the world. School works included a new postprimary school and a new intermediate school in Christchurch, but the sites had not yet been fixed.
