VICEREGAL (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 6. New Zealand’s new GovernorGeneral (Lieutenant-General Sir Bernard Freyberg) is expected to arrive in the Dominion on June 15. He is travelling in the Ruahine, and if the vessel arrives early enough the swear-ing-in ceremony will probably take glace the same day. Sir Bernard Freyerg’s first important task will be the opening of Parliament. on June 26.
Mr H. A. Greer, who for the last three years has held the position of shipping and stores officer in the Ministry of Supply Department, Christchurch, and who will shortly take up the appointment of manager of the overseas department of Messrs P. and W. Henderson, Ltd., was bidden farewell at an informal morning tea function by members of the staff of the Department of industries and Commerce recently. References were made to Mr Greer’s knowledge of shipping importations, storage, and distribution; and the opportunity was taken to make a presentation to him from the staff.
Mr A. T. Ridsdale, secretary of the Westport branch of the Labour Party, has received advice from the Hon. P C. Webb stating that his health had greatly improved and that his medical advisers expected that he would be able to resume his duties again next month.
