MUTTON SLAUGHTERMEN TO RESUME WORK
(P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 5. The mutton slaughtermen at the Gear Meat Company’s 'works at Petone, who struck on Thursday, decided, after a meeting of Freezing Workers’ Union members employed there, to resume work. The men had demanded a wage of £7 net until the end of the season, but the company had replied that it was bound by regulations to pay £6 gross. Although the men decided to return to work, there was actually none for them to do, because no stock has been held in the pens since work stopped.
