JET PROPULSION RESEARCH

NEW APPOINTMENT FOR DESIGNER

(Rec. 9 p.m.) LONDON, June 6. The designer of the jet engine, Air Commodore Frank Whittle, who will shortly go to America to study American jet development, has been appointed technical adviser on engine design to the Controller of Air Supplies at the Ministry of Supply. An official of the Ministry of Supply said all future service aircraft would be based on jet propulsion with civilian aircraft fully benefiting from all Government research. Air Commodore Whittle would direct the whole scheme.
