A TROTTING INQUIRY

Sir, —At the Ashburton trotting meeting last Saturday, June 1, in the last race of the day, the Rakaia Handicap, of one mile and a quarter, Loyal Nurse, the winner, drew No. 11 position at the barrier, right on the extreme outside of the front row. Lucky Loyal drew No. 10 and finished second. What I would like to know is why Loyal Nurse was allowed to change her position and come in. and start right behind Captain Morant and Imperial Lady, who drew Nos. 1 and 2 positions in the front row, and both of which are accepted good beginners. Most trotting enthusiasts do know the disadvantage of an’outside “marble” at the mile and a quarter peg at Ashburton; and had Lucky Loyal decided to come in and start on the inside of Loyal Nurse, I wonder what would have been the result at the finish.— Yours, etc., ACTION. June 3, 1946. [When this letter was referred to the secretary pf the Ashburton Trotting Club (Mr J. B. Nicoll), he said that he had no comment to make.]
