FAMINE COMMITTEE
APPEAL MADE FOR FAT
Reports received by the Christchurch Famine Emergeffby Committee indicate that various district committees have been active in organising .fat collections, although arrangements have been hampered by the recent wet weather. ! Meetings have recently been addressed ;in the Fernside district by Mr A. M. Carpenter, representing Federated Farmers, and the Rangiora postmaster, Mr A. D. Robertson. Each has appealed to farmers to save all fat when killing sheep and cattle, and so far there has been an enthusiastic response.
A farmer recently expressed the opinion that the real solution of the food problem lay in increased production during the coming season. “It is now that we. have to start preparing for this increased production,’.’ he said, “and any help, every help, all the help I can give, I will give willingly. Every acre of mine will be in full production, and I am sure my friends and neighbours feel the same as I do,”
