MOTORCYCLING
GRUELLING TIME FOR RIDERS In a gruelling two-day ride recently, only 30 of 40 competitors completed a 250-mile course set by the Pioneer Motor Club for the New Zealand trials championship. On the first day the course was over the inland route to Kaikoura, where the competitors stayed the night. The riders struck heavy rain which made the roads treacherous the next day, and suffered a severe buffeting during the remainder of the journey. The A.C.U. shield for the winning team was awarded to P. Phillips (Weedons), I. Happer 1 (Dunsandel). and R. Chambers (Ashburton), whose score totalled 241 points lost. Other results were:—
Championship.—P. Phillips, 34 points lost, 1: A. G. Holland, 52 points test, 2; H. Mitchell, 4 63i points lost, 3; H. W. Wilson. 72 points lost, 4. Handicap.—P. Phillips, 80 points lost, 1; M, Alexander, 82 points-lost, 2; H. W. Wilson, 83J points lost, 3.
