SCHOOL CHILDREN IN BRITAIN
HIGHER LEAVING AGE PROPOSED (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) (Rec. 11.45 p.m.) LONDON, June 6. The school leaving age in Britain will be raised to 16 at the earliest possible date. The Minister of Education (Miss Ellen Wilkinson) gave this assurance to the Trade Union Congress deputation. Miss Wilkinson added that raising the age to 15 had not been easy. It was essential to secure further progress in the reorganisation and reduction of the size of classes before fixing a date for raising the ags to 16.
