CAGE-BIRD SHOW

CHRISTCHURCH CLUB’S EXHIBITION Birds from as far away as Wanganui and Invercargill were among the exhibits at the Christchurch Canary and Cage Bird Club’s annual show, which opened at the Foresters’ Hall yesterday. Entries were well up to the standard set in other years. In the budgerigar and foreign bird section, where all colours that have been produced were represented, entries were fewer, but of good quality, Lutlno budgerigars, of which the best was Mr H. C. Simpson’s exhibit, showed great improvement. Yorkshire canaries were specially good, and roller canaries were equal to any exhibits in the past. The outstanding bird of the show was a Norwich canary owned by Mr D. R. Ker, of Dunedin. The best budgerigar was shown by Mr H. J. Conway, the best Yorkshire canary by Mr A. Langdon, the best roller canary by Mr T. H. Philpott. the best British l bird by Mr W. J. Wilson, and the best foreign bird by Mr A. E. R. Savill. The following special awards were made:—Champion of champions cup: D. R. Ker; J. R. Smith Cup, T. H. Philpott; Peace Shield, D. R. Ker; G. Duggan Cup, D. R. Ker; George Reid Cup, H. C. Conway; Budgerigar Society's Cup (female bird), H. C. Simpson: Fanciers’ Cup (best blue series), M. E. North: No. 1 Club Cup, L. J. Olsen; Club Cup (best British finch), W. J. Wilson; Brett Wood Cup, H. J. Conway: H. Baker Cup, A. R. Rowe; W. Milne Shand Cup, A. R. Rowe; West Street Cup. Miss D. P. Sanders; Duggan Cup, D. R. Ker: George Bull Cups, A. Langdon and W. T. Trethewey: P. Mitchell’s trophy, C. Milne; No. 2 Club Cup, A. Langdon: No. 3 Club Cup, A. G. Bull; Fanciers’ Cup (best pink-eye). H. C. Simpson.
