DEATH OF CHILD

MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE WOMAN COMMITTED FOR TRIAL ’(P.A.) GISB(3rNE, June 17. Charged with the manslaughter and ill-treatment and neglect of a two-year-old child, a Maori woman, Mereairo Tiopira, aged 25, was committed to the Supreme Court for trial by Mr E. L. Walton. S.M., after the hearing of long evidence. Medical witnesses said that a postmortem examination of the child revealed extensive sores and wounds on the child’s feet, arms, and head. One witness said that the treatment of the child had been the most inhuman he had known, and another said that the child gave the appearance of having been neglected and treated with extreme severity.
