RELICENSING OF MOTORS
4538 REGISTRATIONS TO DATE Special arrangements for the relicensing of motor vehicles in Christchurch have now been made by the Post and Telegraph Department, and as from this morning owners of vehicles will be able to pay their registration fees at an office in the Old Provincial Council Chambers at the corner of Gloucester and Durham streets. A special staff has been engaged for the work. Up to the close of business yesterday 4538 motor vehicles had been relicensed for the current year in Christchurch. This figure included 3078 cars and 503 trucks, the remainder of the registrations being miscellaneous vehicles such as tractors, Government cars, motor-cycles, etc. The total number of registrations for the 14 working days since relicensing commenced this year shows an advance of 1880 on the figure for the corresponding period of 1942. However, only about a quarter of the vehicles licensed in June, 1942. have been dealt with this month. During the busy period up to the end of June last year 17,638 vehicles were relicensed.
