TROTTING NOTES

Consistent Juveniles Two-year-old supremacy for the 194243 season must be shared by Bel Hamed and Acropolis, two very capable Juveniles, and it is to be regretted that the former was not engaged in the New Zealand Sapling Stakes, a race always looked to to provide a real test of Juvenile merit. The big Ashburton course with its long home stretch demands stamina, and this Acropolis showed in marked degree. Bel Hamed started three times during the season, winning the Timaru Stakes and the Great Northern Stakes, while she finished second in the Welcome Handicap, won by Acropolis, to whom she was conceding 24 yards. Acropolis was started four times for two wins, a second, and a third. He was third to Bel Hamed and Netherby in the Timaru Nursery Stakes, he won the Welcome Handicap at Addington, was second to Scottish Emperor in the Oamaru Juvenile Stakes, while h* won the Sapling Stakes. The

two leading two-year-olds have shown consistency in their racing, and their next meeting will be awaited with interest. TIMARU TROTTING CLUB REPLY TO OWNERS’ AND BREEDERS’ REQUEST In reply to the request of the Canterbury Owners’ and Breeders’ Association that the club reconsider its decision to terminate the engagement of the secretary (Mr H. H. Fraser), the Timaru Trotting Club has stated that the step taken by the committee was not done in undue haste, and the decision was made only after serious consideration of all the circumstanees. The association’s offer to assist and co-operate with the new secretary (Mr F. G. M. Raymond) had been greatly appreciated.
