COMPANY NEWS Hume Steel, Ltd.—The directors of Hume Steel, Ltd., have declared an interim dividend on preference shares at the rate of 3j( per cent.—P.A. Devonport Ferry.—The Devonport Ferry net profit this year, after providing £27,500 for taxes, was £13,253 against £7865 last year, when taxes totalled £11,200. P.A. Wellington Wool Season.—The Wellington Woolbrokers’ Association report of the business of the 1942-43 season shows that 114,459 bales were sold. The net weight was 42.734.4411b and the gross proceeds were £2,396,400 13s lid.—P.A. MINING Barrytown-Karilerl-Arahura Dredges.— A return of 1040oz was secured during the first half of June. Barrytown secured 2160z from 94,000 yards in 218 hours, Kanieri ran 224 hours for a return of 380oz from 77,000 yards, and Arahura turned over 104,000 yards for a recovery of 4440z in 244 hours. Slab Hut.—The return for the week ending June 12, 1943, was 87 ounces from 13,500 yards, in 90 hours.

Austral-New Zealand Mining, I^d.—During the 28 days ending at midnight on June 12, the dredge of Austral-New Zealand Mining, Ltd., operated for 479 hours and dealt with 277,000 yards of spoil for the production of 534 ounces of bullion.
