PENSIONS
Sir, —Regarding the letter about j childless widows’ pensions from “Jus- . tice for All,” speaking from my own experience there is no such pension _ until the widow reaches the age of 50 years. I was left a widow three years ago and have a few years to go j yet before I reach the 50. My husband was a returned soldier of the Great War, but that carries no weight. 2 If “Justice for All” would read the Social Security Act, 1938, she would a see the qualifications set out in that for childless widows. Those that are the age to draw received £1 a week 0 and from July will get 255, I believe which is very different from £3. The 7 single women she mentioned should try for the invalids’ pension.—Yours, etc., CHILDLESS WIDOW, j June 11, 1943. [‘This letter raised the' question of 9 qualifications as set out in section 22 (1) of the Social Security Act, of 1938, 3 and amendments,” said an officer of , the Social Security Department when this letter was referred to him. “With regard to invalidity benefits, every person over the age of 16 who is B totally blind or permanently Incapacitated for work, should apply for an invalidity benefit.”]
