ensuring reinforcements " The Press" Special Service GISBORNE, June 13t The nride in which the deeds of tne Maori Battalion are held was voiced by several speakers at at Hiruharama, including Su Apirana Neata who urged the Prime Minister to remove the restrictions which now threatened to cut off reinforcements for that unit. One-third of the eligible Maori volunteers were still in tne Home Guard when they wished to be overseas helping their br°ther s and Even if it weie necessary to remove the age bars the battalion should be kept at full strength for the duration of the war. This declaration was warmly applauded by the gathering and at a later ctaee the Prime Minister promised full consideration for proposals to ensure the Maori Battalion’s continued existence as a national_tuuti^^—
