RUNNING BLOCKADE OF PHILIPPINES
GENERAL HURLEY’S WORK (8.0.VT.) RUGfBY. June 12 It has been revealed in Caiqo that Brigadier-General Patrick J. Hurley, the former United States Minister te New Zealand, using a fleet of small fishing craft which were bought in Australia, defied the Japanese blockade in the Philippines and carried aid tp ihe American forces on the island. Briga-.. dier-General Hurley, who on June 11 received the United States Distinguished Plying Cross, flew to Australia, carrying 1,0.00.000 dollars in gqld with which he bought up all the available fishing vessels and other small craft for blockade running.
