RICCARTON WATER SUPPLY
Sir, —I wish to endorse the remarks of “20 Years a Ratepayer’’ in your issue of June 7. The council’s decision to proceed with this work is hard for any intelligent person to understand. It is another proof that the ratepayers are indulging in the expensive luxury of a separate entity. First, every pound that can be spared will be required to bring the war to a successful issue, and the majority of the ratepayers have some relative away fighting and are spending up to 10s a week to keep them in touch with home. The bad business aspect is the high cost of materials and the inefficient labour available. I sincerely hope that other ratepayers will protest against this work being done in a patchwork manner and demand that when it is done it will be in a single contract—Yours, etc.. } HIGGSJune 9, 1943.
