NEW ARGENTINE GOVERNMENT

Recognition by Four Other Republics “AVOIDING POSSIBLE EMBARRASSMENT ” (N.Z. Press Association—Copyright) ißec. 6 p.m.) NEW YORK. June 10. Brazil has officially recognised the new Argentine Government, says a dispatch from Montevideo. Paraguay. Bolivia, and Chile have also notified their recognition of the new Argentine Government. The Rio de Janeiro correspondent of the Associated Press of America says that the American republics are hastening recognition of the new Government in order to avoid a possible embarrassing situation if the Axis first recognises Genei’al Ramirez, thus attempting to place him under an obligation. The Buenos Aires correspondent of the “New York Times” says: “Machine-guns and other weapons have been removed from the windows and roof of Government House, while the troops have returned to barracks. These measures have given Argentinians a comforting feeling that normality is returning. No further sensational surprises can be expected for the present.” The Santiago correspondent of the “New York Times” says: “Private advices received from Buenos Aires describe the new Argentine regime as a Nationalist, pro-Fascist movement, backed by a group of Nazi-minded generals and admirals, and designed primarily to prevent a break with the Axis.” The correspondent says: “General Ramirez has long been known as one of the most pro-Nazi officers in the Argentine Army, taking great pride in his three years’ service with Kaiser Wilhelm’s sth Hussars.”
