WAGES AND RENT
Sir,—Can you tell me whether an employer can deduct rent from wages, or, as I have been informed, the employer has to pay the full amount of wages earned, less taxes, and the wage earner pays the rent, etc., voluntarily? Is it within the wage earner’s legal rights to demand wages in full, less taxes?l—Yours, l —Yours, etc., INTERESTED. June 8, 1943. [This letter was referred to the officer in charge of the Department of Labour, who said; “Under the Wages Protection Act, an employer, when he lets a dwelling to a worker, is permitted to deduct the rent from wages.”]
