METROPOLITAN SHOW ABANDONED
NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE The general committee of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association decided yesterday that no Metropolitan Show should be held in November. The subject was introduced by the president, Mr John Brooks, who said that members must come to a decision. “The prospects for holding a show, are by no means promising,” he said. At this stage the meeting went into committee, when a review of the situation was given by the secretary, Mr M. E. Lyons. On resuming the president made the following statement:—“ After giving full consideration to the prospects of holding the Metropolitan Show in November next, and after consulting the authorities now in possession of the association’s grounds, also recognising the necessity for giving proper notice to exhibitors, the committee came to the regretful conclusion that it, had no other course than to abandon the 1943 show. It is hoped at a later stage to arrange a suitable gathering for the many hundreds of young exhibitors of horses and ponies who support the association.”
