NORTH AND SOUTH ISLANDS COMPARATIVE FIGURES ON - INDUSTRIAL GROWTH The smaller industrial development in the South Island as compared with' that of the North in recent years is to some extent reflected in production figures supplied by the New Zealand Manufacturers' Federation. The information was requested by the Canterbury Manufacturers' Association for its survey on the drift of industries to the north. The statistic*. Quoted give the values of production of “true” manufacturing industries since 1933 (before this, no separate information was kept by the census and statistics office) and of all indus* r ial groups since 1932, before which d revenue from electric tramways wss-’*A included. The figures in each case are for the y year ending March 31, North Island y figures being named first, and ?o"fh Island figures being given in parenthesis.
