COMPETITION FOR MAORI FARMERS

* AWARDS ANNOUNCED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, June 8. The Ahuwhenua Trust Board this year awarded Mr Tihema Kingi, of Horohoro, Rotorua, first place in the annual competition among Maori farmers for the Ahuwhenua trophy. This trophy is a magnificent silver cup given in 1933 by Lord Bledisloe to commemorate his visit to lands under development by Maori settlers under various native land development schemes. The judge of this year’s competition, Mr K. M. Montgomery, fields instructor of Te Kuiti, commented on the fine effort of the winner, who had undoubtedly reaped the benefit of previous attempts in the competition. Mr Kingi was third in last year’s competition, and fourth the previous year. Mr Whare Moke, of Kowhia, was awarded second, and Mr Barney Otane. of Hastings, third place.
