DOMAINS BOARD

Sir,—ln “The Press” last week it was reported that a new chairman had been elected by the Domains Board. Perennial chairmenships, like perennial plants, are the better for a change occasionally. It is to be hoped and expected that the new chairman, Mr E. Paterson, will see that the longneglected parks now receive some attention and the interests of the public are put before those of sheep.—Yours, etc R. B. OWEN. June 4, 1943. [When this letter was referred for comment to the chairman of the Domains Board (Mr E. Paterson), he explained that the board had already given consideration to the removal of the sheep from Hagley Park, but that the question of finance entered largely into the matter. The board was now receiving £4OO a year revenue from the sheep: and if they were removed it would cost about £4OO to keep the grass cut. However, said Mr Paterson, efforts were being made at present to get the annual grant to the board increased from £SOOO to £7500, and when that was secured, the board would be in a position to reconsider the maintenance of - Hagley Park.]
