ARMED FORCES APPEALS

DECISIONS OF NO. I BOARD

An appeal for a farmer who was grade II for the Army, and yet fit for overseas service with the Air Force, was heard by the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal Board during its session yesterday The appellant was Francis Rawson Davison, a farmer in partnership with his brother at Lowry Peaks. North Canterbury, The two brothers, F. R. Davison and John Hawdon Davison, managed and worked the 3642 acre farm on which they ran 2600 sheep and grew 400 acres of crops, with the assistance of one farmhand.

Francis Rawson Davison said that he would rather go Into camp himself and leave his brother to look after the property. The physical disability from which he suffered, and which caused his being graded II for Army purposes, was flat feet. This, however, did not debar him from the Air Force, and he hoped to be accepted for air crew training. The appeal of F. R. Davison was dis-' missed, and his brother's was adjourned sine die.

DECISIONS OF NO. 2 BOARD

Nearly 40 appeals, lodged by the Director of National Service, for permanent employees of the Public Works Department were heard yesterday by the No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board. With a few exceptions these men were grade 1, and all were doing work of national importance. The appeals had already been considered, and reports had been furnished to the board by the Special Appeals Advisory Committee in Wellington Elon Percy (grade 1), chief clerk m the electrical section of the Public Works Department, opposed an appeal for him. stating that he wished to serve. After reserving their decision, the board dismissed the appeal conditionally that Percy should not be called up to go to camp before September 30. In the case of Horace Catlow (grade it. a soldier who appealed tor release from camp on the ground of his wife’s state of health, the board recommended that he should not be sent overseas before December 31, that he should be granted special leave at the time of his wife's confinement, and if practicable that he should be transferred to a unit of training in the vicinity of Christchurch This case came before the board last week
