MANAWATU SEAT " The Press ’’ Special Service WELLINGTON. June 5. Declaring his intention to stand against all comers, Mr Lachlan T. McLean has announced that he will be a candidate for the Manawatu seat at the General Election. Mr McLean has given many years’ service on local bodies, including the Kiwitea County Council, of which he has been chairman for the last 21 years, also serving on the Hospital and Power Boards, the Feilding Jockey Club and the Hunt Club. WELLINGTON EAST SEAT WELLINGTON, June 5. The Wellington East seat, which is held by the Minister of Works, the Hon. R. Semple, is to be contested at the General Election by Mr L. T. Jacobsen, a Wellington businessman, who was recently selected as the official National candidate. Mr Jacobsen was born in Hawke’s Bay of pioneer parents and farmed in southern Hawke’s Bay for some years before taking up a commercial career. For the last 14 years he has been in business in Wellington as a manufacturers’ representative and has manufacturing interests. He is a married man. aged 50. with three sons and three daughters. All the sons are serving with the forces, f wo overseas. AUCKLAND EAST SEAT AUCKLAND, June 5. The Auckland East branch of the New Zealand National Party has announced that Mr H. T. Merritt, of Papatoetoe, principal of H. T. Merritt, Ltd., has consented to nomination for the Auckland East seat at the forthcoming General Election. Mr Merritt contested the seat at the last election, but was defeated by Mr F, ,W. Schramm.
