OBITUARY
MR W. F. IBBOTSON Mr William Francis Ibbotson, who was well known in Christchurch, died recently at the Westland Hospital at the age of 41 years. Mr Ibbotson was born at Waikaka, Southland. He had been on the staff of the Bank of New Zealand for 22 years, and had spent most of that time attached to the Christchurch branch. For the last five years he had been a member of the Reefton and Hokitika branches. He had been a keen swimmer and was a member of the Pacific Lodge, Reefton. MR JAMES FINLAY Mr James Finlay, who died at Gore recently, would have attained the age of 94 in October of this year. He was born in Lanarkshire, Scotland, in 1849. In 1874 he married Miss Jean Wallace, also of Lanarkshire, and the day following their wedding they left for New Zealand on the ship Soukar. After his arrival in the Dominion. Mr Finlay was employed at Woodstock station, North Canterbury. He also worked on the Fernside property, controlled by the same owners. In 1880 he took up a freehold section at Bennetts, The couple shifted to Southland and farmed at Balfour and Ferndale, and in 1925 they retired to live at Gore. Mr and Mrs Finlay celebrated their pearl wedding—6s years of married life—in 1939. Mr Finlay was predeceased by his wife two years ago, pe is survived by 22 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
