Visitors to Ashburton There were 2000 passenger bookings from Christchurch to Ashburton during the week-end, compared with 1800 last year. Union Fees A special meeting of 75 employees of the Hamilton Borough Council, members of the Labourers’ Union, expressed approval of the council's refusal to deduct union fees from the wages of some of the men who were not financial. In a letter to the Mayor. Mr H. D. Caro, it was stated that such action was considered contrary to union interests. Further, it was the general opinion of members that the union secretary was paid to do the work and that he should prosecute for union debts.
