COMPENSATION COURT
JUDGMENTS DELIVERED Judgments in two compensation cases were delivered by his Honour Mr Justice O’Regan, in the Compensation Court at Christchurch last week. Clifford Anthony McConnell, aged 32, a gas-cutter, claimed compensation from Andersons, Ltd., Christchurch, alleging that he suffered a hernial injury in the course of his work with the firm. As a result of the injury. McConnell was unable to work for 10 weeks and four days. After reviewing the evidence given by medical witnesses and by the plaintiff at the hearing of the claim in Christchurch on May 17, his Honour stated in his judgment that the plaintiff had proved his case, and was entitled to £4B 11s sd, including £1 medical expenses Judgment would be entered accordingly, with costs and expenses amounting to £8 Bs. Judgment was also delivered on an application by the Westport-Stockton Coal Company, Ltd., for review of weekly payments of compensation to David Thompson, a roadman, of Ngakawau. “Under the circumstances, I must leave it to the parties’ counsel to agree on what the weekly compensation actually is.” states his Honour in a written judgment. "I allow 13 weekly payments as from the date of the last payment. I allow the respondent £5 5s costs and £2 2s for each medical witness.”
