RAIL-CAR SERVICE TO OAMARU
CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PROPOSAL From Our Own Reporter OAMARU, June 3. A request is to be made to the Railways Department by the Oamaru Chamber of Commerce that the railcar which arrives at Timaru at 5.41 a.m. daily should continue its journey to Oamaru. The Dunedin Chamber of Commerce has been requested to support the Oamaru chamber’s representations. The proposal was introduced at the monthly meeting of the Oamaru chamber by Mr M. J. Hanley, who said that representations should be made to the Railways Department to have the Timaru rail-car continue its journey to Oamaru for the convenience of business people and the travelling public. “When the rail-car reaches Timaru it stays there for the best part of four hours before making the return trip to Christchurch,” he added, "whereas it could easily be brought on to Oamaru, enabling a connexion to be made with the morning bus to Dunedin.” Mr E. D. Watts said that such, a service would speed up mails so far as Oamaru was concerned.
