COMPENSATION FOR WHEATGROWERS

FIRST CLAIMS UNDER SCHEME SETTLED The settlement of the first two claims under the wheatgrowers’ compensation fund scheme was announced yesterday by Mr R. McPherson, Wheat and Flour Controller and general manager of the Wheat Committee. He said that the total payment >vas a little more than £3OO, the two claims, from Mid-Canterbury, , arising from hail and frost damage to a total area of 136 acres. Other claims, he said, were in course of settlement, the number received to date being 17. Some claims submitted did not come within the scope,of the regulations, the damage having been caused by wind in some cases and caking of ground/from heavy rain in others.
