GRANT FOR PROTECTION WORK AT COAL CREEK
i A grant of £250 towards repairs to an embankment of the Grey river at > Coal Creek Flat was made at a meeting of the Grey County Council yesterday. The settlers in that locality, have been concerned for some time by flood damage, and a meetlfig of farmers last month decided to make an appeal for a grant towards repairs to the embankment. It is not the Auckland Transport Board’s intention at present to engage women on the trams after the war, stated the board’s engineer-manager, i Mr A, E. Ford, in answer to a question when addressing the Auckland 3 Junior Chamber of Commerce res cently. Mr Ford said the women were = doing very well, but there would be t a lot of men coming back after the » war and they would nave to be found I jobs. “We hope the women will then r go back to the homes.” he added.
