FARMERS’ FIELD COMPETITIONS
RESULTS ANNOUNCED The farmers’ field competitions held under the auspices of the Northern Agricultural and Pastoral Association have been decided by the judge, Mr E. G. Smith, Fields Instructor, Department of Agriculture. Adjustments for land value were made in the field figures to the extent of half a ton per £1 of land value in the case of mangels, ch'ou moellier, and swedes. In the case of lupins, the adjustment was one yield point per £1 of land value. The standard land value was set at £3O. Points were given for land value, width of row, yield, evenness, freedom from weeds, and quality. Results were:— Chou moellier.—P. H. Morris (Waikuku), 91.0 points. 1; J. J. Hughey (Rangiora), 80.9 points, 2; C. Humm and Son (Waikuku), 79.7 points, 3. Mangels.—A. Stalker (Rangiora), 71.0 points. 1; J. A. Petrie (Coldstream), 62.2 points, 2; D. Petrie (Rangiora), 61.7 points, 3. Swedes. —C. Humm and Son, 70.8 points, I; Rangiora High School. 70.5 points, 2; G. G. Goodwin (Rangiora), 51.4 points, 3. Lupins.—G. H. Hassall (Eyreton), 78.0 points. 1: Rangiora High School, 70.3 points, 2; G. H. Hassall, 67.0 points, 3.
