REPRESENTATION FOR STUDENTS
CANTERBURY COLLEGE COMMITTEE Students of Canterbury University College are likely soon to have representation on the college committee of the College Council, if the view of members remains unchanged after the proposal has been further considered by a special committee. Yesterday afternoon Mr C. T. Aschman moved that a representative of the Students’ Association be entitled to attend meetings of the committee. There were obvious benefits of better mutual understanding, said Mr Aschman, the only disadvantage being that there would be little possibility of continuity of representation. The Rector (Professor A. H. Tocker) said nothing but good could come of the closer collaboration. Sir Joseph Ward said students would appreciate the gesture. “I support the proposal, but I should like to ask a question,” said Mr J. H. E. Schroder. He asked whether members had considered that business of the college committee was committee business, so that only the resolutions reported to the full council would be available for promulgation. In cases, too, where certain domestic workings cf the college were concerned, it was not proper that a students’ representa. tive should be admitted to the discussion. He suggested the consideration of certain conditions to meet such cases. A committee was appointed to review the position. In answer to a question by Mr W. P. Spencer, the chairman (Mr A. E.
