PREPARATIONS IN GERMANY
Auckland Visitor's Impressions
MILITARY CONVOYS ON ROADS
(PRESS ASSOCIATIOK TELEGRAM.) AUCKLAND, October 3. The war preparations in Germany were vividly described by Mrs A. G. W. Sparrow, of Auckland, who returned by the Niagara. "Although it was June when I was in Munich, it was apparent to the most casual observer that something momentous was in the air. "Peasants in the harvesting fields seemed to be working against time 'going for their lives.' " She said that she was travelling with a party of eight English people, and they tried tp get some expressions of opinion from the residents, but it was difficult to find anyone who could speak English, and if they could, they would not own up to it. "What impressed us was the activity on the roads. Military transport waggons were always on the move, travelling in convoy style and at the same time all other traffic was held up for long periods. The civilians' wants were of secondary consideration, and at the hotels great respect was shown to military officers."
