Cr. J. E. Jones was appointed by the City Council last evening to succeed the late Mr Robert Nairn on the Selwyn Plantation Board. Mr Paul Schramm, the Austrian pianist, arrived in Christchurch last evening from Dunedin.
Cr. J. E. Jones and Cr. E. H. Andrews and the City Land Surveyor (Mr A. H. Bridge) will represent the Christchurch City Council at the annual meeting of the Town Planning Institute of New Zealand, to be held at Wellington towards the end of this month. A motion of sympathy with the relatives of Mr John Miller, Mayor of Invercargill, who died recently, was passed at a meeting last night of the Christchurch City Council. Mr H. E. Hoyle, of Upper Takaka, has been appointed manager of the Christchurch City Council's quarry at Halswell. Mr Hoyle holds the degrees of bachelor of-engineering (in mining) and bachelor of science. He also holds a battery manager's certificate. His appointment was approved last night by the council. Mr Arthur Pascoe (Wellington) will arrive in Christchurch this morning.
Sympathy with three members of its staff— Messrs C. D. Marks. R. Vincent, and A. A. Boot —in the deaths of near relatives was expressed last night bv the Christchurch City Council.
