THE FISHING SEASON
OPENING TO-DAY
PROSPECTS CONSIDERED GOOD Exceptionally good prospects are offering for the fishing season this year, which opened at midnight throughout the Dominion. The North Canterbury Acclimatisation Society had a survey made recently by its rangers of the rivers in its district, and the observations support the view that if climatic conditions are suitable a quality of brown and rainbow trout difficult to surpass will be yielded. . The secretary of the society (Mr G. L. Pomfret-Dodd) said yesterday that he had been advised that the rivers in the Kaiapoi district, the north and south branches of the Waimakarin, the Cam, the Ohoka, and the Main Drain were carrying a large number of fish and offered good prospects to the angler. The demand for fishing licences has been good, although no exact figures are yet available. The opening date, October 1, in the North Canterbury district is now the same as that in other districts. Last year the season was not opened till October 16, to allow the condition of fish in the rivers to improve.
