SPORTS FIXTURES FOR TODAY
RUGBY UNION SEASON TO CLOSE The Rugby Union football season will be concluded this afternoon with a seven-a-side tournament at Lancaster Park. The programme will begin at 1.30 p.m. and will include athletic events as well as football. The Association football attraction for the day will be the English Cup semi-final between Technical A and Nomads to be played at English Park at 3 p.m. The Rugby League attraction will be a representative match between the Canterbury junior team and Wellington at Monica Park. Play will begin at 2.30 p.m. The principal amateur cycling event of the season, the “Round the Gorges’’ road race, will be held this afternoon over the 100-mile course, starting from Papanui and finishing about 2.45 p.m. at the Addington trotting grounds. A professional race will be held at the trotting grounds at 2.15 p.m. as a preliminary finish to the big race.
