“SQUARING THE CIRCLE”

BRIGHT RUSSIAN COMEDY To those in search of hilarious entertainment with a new and unconventional flavour, the bright Russian comedy, “Squaring the Circle,” to be performed at the Radiant Hall tonight and on Monday night will prove excellent fare. The three acts in the play are full of amusing situations and witty dialogue, the characters are real and interesting, and the plot is new and unexpected. This is the first comedy of the modern Russian school to be produced in New Zealand and for that reason alone it will have a wide appeal to Christchurch theatregoers. Written by Valentine Kateyev, one of the foremost humorous and satirical playwrights of the Soviet, the play pokes fun at conventional ideas of marriage and at the same time happily caricatures the no less silly Communist attempts to-dis-count love as a mere bourgeois prejudice.

Although the leading characters are members of the Young Communist League, the followers of Marx and Lenin are utterly human and no more immune to love than youth under any other social system. “Squaring the Circle” is being produced by the drama group of the Christchurch Left Book Club for a season of two nights only.
