BILLIARDS

CANTERBURY JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

At the Returned Soldiers’ Association’s rooms the final of the Canterbury junior billiards championship was played on Thursday evening and resulted in a win for R. Norrie (St. Albans) 500 (breaks 64, 23, 32, 24. 31, 27) from D. McLenaghan (Sydenham Library) 376 (breaks 23. 21, 32). Norrie began brilliantly, registering a 64 on his second visit to the table. This is the highest break during the tournament. He then followed with a useful 23, and on his sixth visit to the table compiled 32. With this commanding lead, McLenaghan was unable to bridge the gap, and Norrie ended the game with 124 points in his favour, and thus won the championship. The season will practically close on Monday when R. Norrie (St. Albans), H. Leach (Returned Soldiers' . Association), and G. McGregor (Richmond) will represent Canterbury against North Canterbury, at Rangiora, for the Lutjohann Shield.
