IRRIGATION IN CANTERBURY
PAPER READ TO BRITISH ASSOCIATION LECTURE BY WOMAN TOURIST (FIOX «<?B OWI CORMSPOKDMT.) LONDON, August 25. At the geographical section of the British Association's meeting at Cambridge a paper on the irrigation schemes now in progress in Canterbury was read, accompanied by a very fine set of photographic films. The author and reader of the paper was Miss Margaret Davies, an Englishwoman, who was in New Zealand during last summer, and who, after making a thorough tour of the irrigation work in progress in Canterbury, went for a general tour through.both islands, and took m*ny pictures of the country. These views were shown later. When in New Zealand, Miss Davies met with much courteous help from the Public. Works .Department, ,who arranged that an official should accompany her during -her- tour in the Rangitata district and give her the information desired. The audience was a large one and the paper had a most enthusiastic reception. Miss Davies already, had been a great traveller, usually to investigate the land and agriculture. She has travelled widely in South and Central America, the Argentine, Java, Australia, the Sahara, and Morocco. She qualified as a student of the Land Utilisation Society, in London, and she is now at Hazelbeach Hall, Northampton.
