THE U.S.S.R. AND PEACE
TO THE EDITOR OR THE PRESS. Sir, —In these days of international crisis I wonder how many anti-Com-munists have realised the stand for peace taken by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics? If she is a country of bloodsucking warmongers, why should the only recent demands for a disarmament conference come from
her? Why did she not take advantage of the recent Japanese invasion to make war on these barbarians? Why did not Litvinov say something more barbaric on Saturday when Soviet aid for the Czechs was discussed? Only because the, Soviet States are the greatest force for peace in a world that has become profit mad. Stalin has said, “We want peace, but we are prepared to fight for it.” Of the capitalist countries it could be said, “We want profits, but we want war for them."—Yours, etc., Y.Z. • Septemfaer-26, 1938.
