BLOMFIELD BEATS DETTON AUCKLAND. September 27. The final gong failed to stop "Lofty” Blomfield and Dean Detton, in their almost frenzied efforts to knock each other out of the ring, at the conclusion of a-stirring professional wrestling contest staffed before a capacity house Cautioned several times for illegal punching, the contestants were working at high pitch in the final round, and the house was in an uproar as they continued to exchange blows after the gong had sounded. When the pair were finally-separated, and the referee raised Blomfield’s hand' in toker of victory, Detton pranced round the ring in an excited manner, throwing off his seconds, who endeavoured tc restrain him. Finally he saw the referee leaving the ring, chased him. caught him by the shirt, and attempted to drag him back. As Detton continued to. demonstrate, he was showered with pennies, lollies, and newspapers.
The first fall went to the American in the fifth round, when he subdfled Blomfield with-two heavy dumps, after having; weakened him with several
flying tackles and beadlock throws. The New Zealander staged a good recov- ' ery, however, and he finally trapped Detton with his octopus clamp in the seventh round, and won a submission : 1 fall. „ - ...
