THE STOCK EXCHANGES
PRICES CONTINUE TO FALL
SHARP BREAK IN LOCAL MARKET
Little business is being do ne 'on the London Stock Exchange, and prices are being marked down severely. The latest quotation for the 3J per cent. British War Loan, which is one of the market pointers, is £92, compared with £IOO at the end of last week. German and Czech bonds are weak.
Sellers in Sydney yesterday accepted greatly reduced prices. The falls were the heaviest since the crisis began. Even gold shares were considerably lower. Prices were also marked down in Melbourne, but the volume of trading was light.
Without evidence of much selling pressure, local markets continued to move toward lower levels yesterday. The afternoon’s news about the crisis in Europe caused a sharp break in the prices of several stocks.
