VALUES FALL IN AUCKLAND
SOME SEVERE LOSSES RECORDED AUSTRALIAN INDUSTRIALS SUFFER MOST ITHB PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND. September 27. The latest turn in European affairs was reflected by a sharp downward trend in share values on the Auckland Stock Exchange, when business was resumed after the Dominion Day holiday. Some severe losses were suffered, mainly by leading Australian industrials. Government loans • were comparatively steady. Buying support for banks and insurances was almost entirely withdrawn. Bank of New Zealand and South British steadily lost ground. Farmers’ Auctioneering dropped considerably, and Auckland Gas shared in the decline. An exception was Dominion Breweries, which showed a slight rise. Industrial leaders, such as Broken Hill Proprietary, British Tobacco, and both issues of Electrolytic Zinc, were marked down heavily on the rapidly falling market, and falls of 3s and 4s were common.
Colonial Sugars were caught in the drift to lower levels, and dropped 22s 6d. Offers throughout were only spasmodic, and few shares succeeded in holding recent values. New Zealand issues, however, were not affected to such a marked extent.
