TRAM TRACK REPAIRS

URGENT WORKS BEGUN COLOMBO STREET RENEWALS SOON Large gangs of Christchurch Tramway Board workmen were engaged yesterday on the lifting and packing of the tram track round the north-east corner of Cathedral square, and it is hoped that the work will be completed to-day. This is the first of a number of urgent jobs on which the board will be able to concentrate now that the major task of centring the track in Riccarton road is nearly finished. The board will make an early start on the duplication of the track in Cashel street from High street to Madras street. This involves shifting the existing track on the north side slightly nearer the middle of the road. Later, the single line of track, extending to Linwood avenue, will be centred. Before that is done, however, the relaying of the Colombo street track from the Square to Cashel street will be undertaken.
