ADDINGTON YARDS SITE
+ SUGGESTED TRANSFER TO SOCKBURN "It is about time those stockyards were shifted out to Sockburn," said Mr H. L. Bowker at last night's meeting of the Christchurch Beautifying Association. In a discussion on the beautifying of Harper avenue, Mr Bowker urged that the association consider taking the lead in an attempt to have the Addington saleyards removed from their present site "on the edge of the city." Other members supported Mr Bowker. "That position might have been all right 30 years ago," said the chairman, Mr Irving Sladen, and other members objected strongly to the present practice of driving cattle through Fendalton, and even along Bealey avenue. It was stated that the yards were in the Riccarton Borough and that the Borough Council not very long ago had made a strenuous attempt to have the site changed. If the association took up Mr Bowker's suggestion, said E. H. Andrews, it would be sure of support from Riccarton. "Cannot something be done? 'They are definitely an eyesore,' conciuaea Mr Bowker.
